Egypt's top religious leader issues fatwa against buying Facebook 'likes'
Buying âlikesâ on Facebook was banned this week by Egyptâs top mufti, who said the practice is a form of fraud and deceit.
The Islamic leader, Grand Mufti Shawki Allam, regularly issues religious decrees â" called fatwas â" usually in response to questions by Muslims looking for guidance.
In a post on Facebook earlier this week, the mufti wrote that it is âreligiously prohibitedâ to pay someone to click âlikeâ on an ad or promotion â" because of how âdeceptiveâ it is.
He quoted Muhammadâs saying: âHe who deceives is not one of us.â
